4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Los Angeles Area

Monday Afternoon Quake Felt From LA to San Diego

On Monday afternoon, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Los Angeles, causing strong shaking throughout the greater Los Angeles area and as far away as San Diego. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was located about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, at a depth of about 10 miles.

The earthquake occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. local time and was widely felt across Southern California. Strong shaking was reported in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, and other cities in the area. In some areas, the shaking was strong enough to cause minor damage to buildings and infrastructure.

There were no immediate reports of major injuries or damage as a result of the earthquake. However, authorities are urging residents to be prepared for aftershocks and to take precautions to protect themselves and their property.

The earthquake is the latest in a series of seismic events that have struck Southern California in recent months. In July, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Ridgecrest, causing significant damage and injuring dozens of people. In June, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Searles Valley, causing widespread shaking but no major damage or injuries.

Earthquakes are a common occurrence in California, and residents are advised to be prepared for future events. The USGS recommends that residents have an earthquake preparedness plan in place, including a supply of food, water, and other essentials, as well as a plan for evacuation if necessary.
